Weight Management: Using LM Principles to Support Both Medicated and Non-Medicated Journeys

 

This course is for healthcare professionals wishing to support patients on a weight loss journey. This may include doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists and others. The course covers both working with individuals using weight loss medications as a part of their approach to weight loss as well as those following a pure lifestyle method.

In this current healthcare climate of increased interest in weight management, both medicated and unmedicated, lifestyle medicine has a central role to play in supporting patients to lose weight healthily and permenantly. This course will provide healthcare professionals with an in-depth knowledge of the subject, help you develop associated skills and support independent weight management practice.

  • The pathophysiological processes involved in the development of obesity, including social drivers
  • The epidemiology of obesity, high risk groups and its consequences
  • Assessment of patients with obesity
  • Nutrition in the context of weight management
  • Physical activity in the context of weight management
  • Other lifestyle factors and the gut microbiome in the context of weight management
  • The major pharmacological and surgical approaches used in weight loss and how to support those on a medicated weight loss journey
  • How the guidelines bring this all together
  • An extended section on weight management psychology and evidence-based behaviour change support in a weight management context
